YLAA SNOWDON FOR SUNRISE 2026

I'm taking on Snowdon for Sunrise in support of Your Local Air Ambulance

Every day of the year, Your Local Air Ambulance (Warwickshire & Northamptonshire/Derbyshire, Leicestershire & Rutland) is helping save more lives. Our critical care paramedics, doctors and pilots attend an average of five rescue missions a day.

The air ambulance gives people the very best chance of survival and recovery. We are supported by a Critical Care Car meaning that we can reach those who need us 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days a year. The charity receives no government funding for its daily missions.

Climbing Snowdon

Climbing Snowdon at Night in a Tutu… Carrying Tyres (For a Very Good Cause)

Some people set an alarm early to watch the sunrise. Others climb a mountain in the middle of the night wearing a tutu and carrying four tyres.

This year, I’ll be attempting the latter.

Under a sky full of stars, I’ll be climbing the highest mountain in Wales — Snowdon — with one slightly ridiculous twist: we’ll be carrying four Bridgestone tyres the whole way up… while wearing a tutu.

Why? Because sometimes the best way to support a serious cause is by doing something a little bit absurd.

### Why I’m Doing It

This climb isn’t just about the challenge, the laughs, or the questionable fashion choices. It’s all in support of the incredible work done by the Wales Air Ambulance.

When accidents happen in remote places — mountains, countryside, or rural roads — every second matters. The Air Ambulance team brings hospital-level care directly to people when they need it most. Their crews can reach places that normal ambulances simply can’t.

They quite literally save lives from the sky.

And that’s worth climbing a mountain for.

### The Challenge

The plan is simple (in theory):

- Start the climb in the middle of the night
- Hike to the summit of Snowdon
- Carry four Bridgestone tyres the entire way
- Wear a tutu, because… why not?
- Reach the top just in time to watch the sunrise over the mountains

Snowdon stands at 1,085 metres, and while thousands climb it every year, most of them don’t do it at night… and even fewer do it while dressed like they’re halfway to a charity ballet performance.

Throw in a bit of Welsh mountain weather and a set of tyres, and suddenly it becomes a whole new kind of challenge.

### The Reward: Sunrise from the Summit

If everything goes to plan, the reward will be standing on the summit as the first light breaks across Snowdonia.

There’s something magical about watching the world wake up from the top of a mountain — the sky turning from deep black to purple, then orange, then gold.

And hopefully I’ll still be able to feel my legs by then.

### How You Can Help

If you’d like to support the challenge, any donation — big or small — will go towards helping the amazing work of the Wales Air Ambulance.

Your support helps keep helicopters flying, crews responding, and critical care reaching people who need it most.

And if a grown adult carrying tyres up a mountain in a tutu helps raise a bit more money along the way… then it’s definitely worth it.

### Wish Me Luck

So that’s the plan.

A mountain.
A sunrise.
Four tyres.
One tutu.
And a very good cause.

Let’s hope the tyres are lighter than they look.
