Andy Runs Manchester Marathon

By Andy Cooke

Help me to save more lives

As many of you will remember in 2021 I ran the London Landmarks Half Marathon for Derbyshire Mountain Rescue, a charity which operates like a 999 service without the government funding.

In 2025, as I prepare to run the Manchester Marathon I am acting in the same way. I look outside my classroom window looking at Royal Derby Hospital and the one bit of the hospital I can see in the Helipad.

It is uncomfortable how often I'm distracted from teaching by the sound and site of a helicopter landing on the roof, however bad my class is someone else is having a worse day.

And like Mountain Rescue this 999 service is receives no government funding, and relies on fundraising in order to keep going. Without fundraising for Air Ambulance people will literally die.

So thankyou for visiting my page and please support me and more significantly the world of the Air Ambulance.

The Official Announcement

Monday 18th Nov
In 2020 we were not allowed to leave the house, in boredom or stupidity I signed up for the London Landmarks Half Marathon. The whole of my fundraising campaign was based around the fact I hated running, I didn't see the point of it, so please dig deep.

I ran that race, and raced £800 for Derbyshire Mountain Rescue.

According to Strava I did not run again for months, and I still didn't like running.

However I won't lie, in a journey to lose weight, and a discovery of parkrun, I've actually started to enjoy running. I still don't want to go out and I am not motivated to leave the house, but when I'm out there I enjoy it.

I wrote a list in sixth form of the challenges I wanted to do by 30. I have been to Australia, I've bought a house, and I'm no closer to opening the batting for England Cricket Team.
But at the age of 30 (and due to scheduling I won't complete it before I'm 30) I'm commited to ticking of the Marathon.

Please come with me on this journey, physical on runs, metaphorically thought the metaverse and may if possible financially through sponsorship.
