Terms & Conditions
Leicestershire Firewalk
Thursday 7th November 2024
Terms & Conditions of Participation
For ease of reading, these terms and conditions are set out in a Q&A format. The answers make up
the terms and conditions you commit to by registering for this event.
Is my registration fee refundable?
Once you have paid your registration fee this is not refundable under any circumstances.
Should you be unable to make the event after registering, your place can be transferred to a family
member or friend as long as they meet the participant criteria and the original participant confirms
in writing to The Air Ambulance Service that they are happy to pass over their place and who they
are passing it on to.
Is there a minimum sponsorship I have to raise to take part?
Yes, participants must fundraise £100 in sponsorship in addition to their registration fee before the
date of the event to be allowed to participate on the day. This can be through an online fundraising
page, via cheque, or bank transfer into our account. All your minimum sponsorship must be in by
Monday 4th November 2024. With prior agreement, any shortfall can be paid by cash or card
payment at the event before the Firewalk begins. If you are struggling to meet the target, please
contact your local Community Fundraiser Julie Gray at Julie.gray@theairambulanceservice.org.uk
What support will I receive from the charity?
You will receive a fabulous fundraising pack in the post and whilst The Air Ambulance Service cannot
take responsibility for your fundraising activities, you will be put in touch with your local Community
Fundraiser who can answer any questions you have and support you with ideas and advice for
raising money. After the event, you will receive a certificate and medal to wear with pride!
How do I send you my sponsorship money?
Full information will be provided after you have registered but you can do this via setting up an
online fundraising page at JustGiving.com or sending us offline donations via cheque, our website, or
bank transfer.
Aside from fundraising, are there any other criteria people need to meet to take part?
Time 4 Change age restriction is 16+. There are also physical restrictions such as mobility issues.
Time 4 Change has had many people walk who were pregnant, blind, have diabetes, stroke survivors,
and many other conditions. None have been an issue. If you can walk, then you should manage a
firewalk perfectly well. However, Time 4 Change always recommends, if in doubt, that you seek
advice from your doctor beforehand – particularly if you have diabetes. Time 4 Change pride
themselves on running safe and fun events so if on the day you are deemed unfit due to medical
restrictions you will not be permitted to walk.
Participants must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If Time 4 Change deems you unfit
to walk due to either of these substances, you will not be able to take part in the firewalk.
At the event, every participant will be required to sign a legal disclaimer provided by Time 4 Change
stating that they are aware of any possible risks and are entering into any activity of their own free
will and volition. Failure to sign a disclaimer form will result in entry being refused with no right to
refund. Please see a copy of this disclaimer at the end of these Terms and Conditions.
Who is Time 4 Change?
Time 4 Change are the third-party Firewalk experts whom we are enlisting the services of to run the
Firewalk itself and the pre-walk training. The Air Ambulance Service is responsible for running the
rest of the event outside of these two elements.
The Time 4 Change trainer, Cliff Mann, has three decades of experience in facilitating these events
and a 100% safety record. Time 4 Change do not use any other trainers or contract any events out to
other companies. All fire marshals, spotters, and other staff undergo adequate training and
continued professional development.
None of your data will be passed to Time 4 Change outside of the legal disclaimer you complete for
them on the day.
What training is provided before my Firewalk?
Time 4 Change will open the session with a training exercise. You will be trained by Cliff Mann, a
qualified firewalk instructor with three decades of experience.
Do I need any specialist clothing or equipment?
There is no special clothing required. Casual, comfortable clothes are best. Please remember fires
can be quite dirty and clothes may become ash-stained so don’t wear your best clobber! Footwear
needs to be easy to remove and will need to be replaced before going back indoors so a hand towel
might be a good idea to wipe down your feet. Time 4 Change asks all attendees to bring flip-flops or
something similar as without these, standing waiting for your turn to walk barefoot on the cold
ground isn’t comfortable. Nail varnish and toe rings do not need to be removed.
How do you ensure I’m kept safe?
As you’d expect, Time 4 Change and The Air Ambulance Service have conducted a full risk
assessment for the event and will have mitigations for any risks identified in place. The training
session provided by Time 4 Change before you take part in the Firewalk is key to your safety.
We will have trained first aiders and first aid kits on hand at the event and you are covered by both
Time 4 Change and The Air Ambulance Service’s public liability insurance.
What happens if the event is cancelled?
If we are unable to go ahead with the original event date, we will always look to postpone the event
to a new date to which your registration fee and sponsorship money will be transferred.
What happens if I raise the sponsorship money but then can’t attend on the day due to
unforeseen circumstances?
Unfortunately, we will be unable to refund your registration fee. If we can do so, we will offer you
the chance to transfer your place to another Firewalk event at a later date but this may not always
be possible.
Your place can be transferred to a family member or friend as long as they meet the participant
criteria and the original participant confirms in writing to The Air Ambulance Service that they are
happy to pass over their place and who they are passing it on to.
As stated in the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, if your sponsors have donated on the
condition that you take part in the Firewalk then we must offer them a refund of their donations. If
this is the case, please explain the situation to your sponsors and ask if any of them would like a
refund. If they would please get in touch with the Charity as soon as possible to arrange this.
It will still be a condition of taking part on the day, that you and your substitute combined have
raised £100 for the Charity in sponsorship.
What happens if I take part in the training session but then don’t complete the Firewalk?
We can assure you that after the training you will be pumped up and ready to walk – the feeling is
incredible! However, there is no pressure to complete the Firewalk and it is a completely personal
choice.
In the event that you don’t take part in the Firewalk after the training session has taken place your
registration fee will be non-refundable and there will not be the opportunity to offer your place to a
family member or friend. As stated in the Fundraising Regulator’s Code of Practice, if your sponsors
have donated on the condition that you take part in the Firewalk then we must offer them a refund
of their donations. If this is the case, please explain the situation to your sponsors and ask if any of
them would like a refund. If they would please get in touch with the Charity as soon as possible to
arrange this.
By registering for this event, you are accepting the Terms & Conditions detailed above. If you have
any further questions that you would like to know the answers to before joining the team please do
get in touch by emailing Julie.gray@theairambulanceservice.org.uk or calling 0300 3045 999.
